Verse 1
And what of our country you ask my child can I tell you how it will be
Well I’m pleased you think Daddy can answer you now a question so big let me see
If it rains cats & doggies the rivers will flow & all of the poor farmers veges will grow
And the cattle and sheep will be fat on the land and life will be nothing but grand

Chorus
And it’s red in the centre and blue all around with a ribbon of gold in between
And it’s bigger than Texas and flatter than Spain it’s the best country I’ve ever seen

Verse 2
And what of our creatures you ask my child can I tell you how they will fare
Well I’m happy to say Daddy knows this stuff well from the bunyip to the didgeribear
And we’ll soon have those feral cats back in their box ditto the pig camel rabbit & fox
They just found a critter that eats cane toads raw we’re bringing them in by the score

Rpt chorus

Verse 3
And what of our people you ask my child are we all living happily here
Well how could you not enjoy this paradise sun surf sand and cold beer
OK there’s still a few hard-done-by mobs but they’ll be alright if we get ‘em all jobs
And if some people don’t like our great Aussie way then nobody’s making them stay

Rpt chorus

Verse 4
And what of our future you ask my child can I foresee our country’s fate
Well don’t worry yourself about what people say just trust me she’ll be right mate
They say greenhouse gases are bad for the sky surely that only worries the folks who can fly
And if global warming’s as bad as they say . . . why’s it such a beautiful day

Rpt chorus

Chorus medly
And it’s red in the centre and blue all around with a river of gold in-between
And it’s richer than honey and sweeter than cane
Fairer than sunshine that falls on the plain
Older than wisdom & fresher than rain
That turns the brown land into green
Still the best country I’ve ever seen, yeah
The best country I’ve ever seen
